The collection brings books and reading together with fantasy, travel, animals, music, and more. Choose a scene that suits the reader or the book waiting on the nightstand.

Make a Bookmark for Your Next Read

Pick a design to match a book’s mood: a jungle animal stack for an adventure story, or a magician and rabbit for a tale of tricks and surprises. As you color, talk about where the bookmark might take its reader, then make up a short story about the scene.

A bookmark has a simple job: it marks the page where you stopped reading, so you can find your place again. Leave a little space near one end uncolored if you want to add a reader’s name or a book title by hand.

Give Each Reading Scene Its Own Palette

Use leafy greens and warm browns for the jungle and forest animals, or cool blues for the underwater shark, scuba diver, and mermaid. A sunrise scene can shift from pale yellow to orange, while a space station might stand out against a dark blue or purple sky.

For the city, airship, and mechanical octopus, try contrasting metallic grays with bright details. A rock band can use bold stage colors, while books and coffee invite softer shades. The cute monsters who love books could be any color you like, so give each one a different look.

Choose by Age and Coloring Level

All the designs in this collection are detailed, so they may suit older kids, teens, and adults who enjoy taking their time. A 3-year-old may need help with the small sections; for a 7-year-old, choose a favorite scene and color it together. Thick crayons or colored pencils are easier to manage than fine-tip markers for younger hands.

The scenes pair several subjects, giving you details to work through rather than one large, simple shape. Jungle animals gathered in a stack and forest creatures beside a fairy-tale mushroom house offer different textures to color, from fur and leaves to the curved roof. The pirate treasure scene brings a shark into an underwater setting; a scuba diver and mermaid make another sea-themed choice.

For imaginative settings, color a space station orbiting Earth, a futuristic city street, or a robot riding in a rocket beside an alien reading in space. Robots with books and a robot beside a stack of books keep the focus on reading. An adventure train and teddy bears floating in a hot-air balloon make a lively travel scene, while a steampunk airship and mechanical octopus bring gears and machinery into the picture.

Other designs set a woman reading beside books and coffee, or place a magician, rabbit, and wand together for a storybook scene. There are also an arcade machine with a handheld game console, a medieval knight with an eagle, and a fantasy dragon eye beside a shelf of magic potions. A library cat, a mystery, and a haunted tree suggest a spooky tale; a rock band onstage and an electric guitar suit music fans. Jane Austen’s books and Shakespeare’s Globe Theater offer a literary theme, while a leaf and forest sunrise make a quieter reading scene. For more sea-life art, browse Mermaid coloring pages.
